2015 • Thank You

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2015 and joyously welcome in 2016, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on this past year, and some of the people that made it so special to me.

One year ago today I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new year. I had a gut feeling that 2015 was going to be good, really good. I had no reason to be sure of this optimism, but there was almost no doubt in my heart that 2015 was going to be a year to remember. As I look back over the last 12 months, I see that heart was most definitely right.

While there was multitude of triumphs and heartaches in 2015, I must say that the founding of Stephanie Alys Photography was one of my favorite chapters. As I started out on this journey, I was nervous, excited, and found myself second guessing the decision, and myself, repeatedly. However, every single session and every single client proved to me I made right decision. I met the most amazing families, individuals, parents, children, couples, and brand new babies, and all of it felt like privilege, and every session brought me so much joy.

I would be remiss not to thank the people who have given me their support –in so many ways– before the ball drops tonight. I appreciate you all so much more than I could ever express, but I am going to try.

Thank you to my family. Both the family that raised me and the family that raised my husband and took me in as their own. Thank you for the love and encouragement that made it possible for me to dream and believe in my dreams. Thank you for the education and the multitude of hours babysitting you have spent that made it possible for me to follow my dreams. I truly couldn't have done this without you. Thank you.

Thank you to incredible friends. While I try so hard to gracefully accept praise, I often find myself eagerly deflecting it. And some of you don't let me get away with it, and it humbles me immensely. Everytime you stop me from saying, "Oh these pictures are only good because of ____" and you turn around say, "These photos are good because you are an amazing photographer" I take it deeply to heart. Thank you.

Thank you to the best clients a photographer could ever hope to have. It has been an honor to work with you, and a pleasure getting to know each one of you. Every single one of you have not only been gorgeous but also truly beautiful souls. I have loved being your photographer, and documenting these wonderful moments for your family. If I can't see you again in 2016, please at least keep in touch. I wish you all the most wonderful 2016! I am so grateful for your support in my small business, especially in its first year of life. Thank you.

And finally, thank you to my amazing husband. For all the times I was ready to say, "I'm not good enough" or "It's not worth the risk" you were right there behind me, pushing me forward. You believed in me, completely, and I can't thank you enough for that. You are truly my best friend and the most incredible partner in life. Thank you.

I thank God for all of you.

Goodbye 2015, I'll never forget you!

...and cheers to 2016!
