Cypress Top Historic Park Extended Family Session • Ivan + Mei Lene's Big Family Session
I hope everyone is deeply enjoying their family this holiday season! Last Christmas I had the privilege of taking this gorgeous family's extended family pictures. I am excited to finally share it on my blog a year later!
It may a bit of a funny comparison, but when I think of family sessions I am reminded of Shrek's "Ogres are like onions" quote (someone please tell me they know what quote I'm talking about!). Family session's aren't like ogres, but I think they are like onions. They have LAYERS. There are many layers to an extended family session, and you don't want to miss one!
Admittedly, grandkids can steal the show, but magic seems to happen when you get siblings together –even when they're all grown up.
In the hustle and bustle of everything it can be easy to miss the little moments, but try to keep an eye out for those too. Even if it's just for a "mental picture". These quiet moments are some of the most beautiful ones.
Extended family sessions are full of energy! There are a lot of moving parts (and moving kiddos!), and if you're focused on perfect poses for every second, you might miss a lot of the fun. I happen to think photos that share a little bit of the chaos and connections are an integral part of the story too!
In the end, as much as I adore candid images and lifestyle photography, there is something classic about a traditional family portrait that I cannot resist. They're timeless, and a family treasure.
We ended up getting rained on at the end of session, so we did a reshoot for Ivan & Mei Lene's own family. Which worked out beautifully, be sure to check it out if you haven't already.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you enjoy the hustle and bustle, the quiet moments, and the many layers of your family this season. And don't forget to take a few pictures :)
