the nursery

Take a peek into our nursery! My goal was to a create a relaxed space with a simple & sweet safari theme. I went to Pinterest for inspiration, and while my interior design skills are nothing to brag about, I am a in love with this little baby getaway.

My favorite space in the room is probably this cozy nook. I can't wait to sit here with my little monkey :)

The incredibly sweet elephant & monkey artwork by Sweet Melody Designs inspired this little corner. I found the mommy's little monkey pillow at Home Goods, and the children's floor pouf on Etsy. The blanket was custom made by amazingly talented grandma :)

Next to this corner sits a mini bookshelf. My husband and I enjoy building our furniture, and after years of building exclusively off slightly modified plans from Ana White's website & book, I've started dabbling in creating my own plans –I love having control over the design, quality, color, and size of the furniture in our home while keeping things budget friendly.

With scrap wood & leftover stain, I made some wall art following advice from this tutorial by DIY on the cheap's Erin Spain. It was a really quick and easy creation –even for my uncrafty hands!

After much deliberation in our home, my daughter's old pink & yellow mobile came along with the crib to its new nursery. I have admit, I was Team New Safari Mobile, but now I love seeing this guy here. Call me sentimental or nostalgic, but it's nice seeing a bit of her nursery theme finding a home in her brother's nursery.

One more little non-safari item snuck into the nursery, and it earned its spot by being so stinkin' cute! This dinosaur lovey & matching blanket comes from Little b Nursery by Little by Designs –an Austin, Texas based small business!

So as you see, our nursery is simple, but it's full of heart. We reused a lot of items, DIY'd a little, and made a few thoughtful purchases. The pale mint walls and earthy colors are also extremely relaxing, and I'm looking forward to resting and bonding with baby here!
