Hello 2018! • Skipping resolutions, but picking a word
I hope you rang in the new year merrily (or cozily) and maybe with a sense of hope and excitement. I spent New Year's Eve baking cookies (that were supposed to be baked before Christmas), and watching other people party away on TV while I sat on my couch sipping sparkling cranberry juice (my daughter's pick). Still, when I saw the Time's Square ball drop and 2018 light up so brightly I still felt exactly those feelings –hope and excitement. For all that can be and all that will be in the new year.
Last year I stumbled into the tradition of picking a word for the new year. It went well enough last year that I've decided to go ahead and do it again for 2018. This year my word is: explore.
Maybe a few adventures. Maybe a local discovery here or there. Maybe just seeing things with new eyes. I just want to explore.
Whether you do resolutions or word picking or hope or simply celebrate contentment, I wish you all the best in your dreams and your endeavors.
There's a quote on the wall of the yoga studio I visit, and it feels just about perfect for the new year:
"What you seek is seeking you." - Rumi
